Long Beach Police Department homicide detectives arrested Melvin Lynn Davis, 19, of Compton, and Rakeem Williams, 19, of Cypress, on Thursday while serving a series of search warrants related to the case, according to information provided by LBPD spokeswoman Lisa Massacani.

Investigators served warrants at two locations in Compton, one in Cypress and one in Hawthorne in connection with the June 25 homicide, Massacani said. The effort also resulted in the recovery of seven handguns and 12 rifles, including one unregistered assault rifle.

Additional physical evidence connected to Daniels’ murder was also recovered, Massacani said.

Davis and Williams each face a single count of murder along with gang enhancements.

“The investigation is continuing and additional arrests may be made once investigators have had an opportunity to process all of the evidence recovered,” Massacani said.

June 27, 12:03pm | The young man gunned down in North Long Beach Saturday night in what detectives suspect was a gang-related incident has been identified.

Dajon Daniels, 18, of Long Beach, died of multiple gunshot wounds shortly after midnight Sunday, according to the L.A. County Coroner’s Office.

Long Beach Police Department officers found Daniels lying in the street bleeding in the 100 block of East 56th Street Saturday night at about 11:35 p.m., according to information provided by LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

The investigation has thus far revealed that Daniels had just left a birthday party at a nearby residence when he became involved in a physical altercation with a group of men, Pratt said.

One of the men pulled out a gun and opened fire on Daniels, who was hit in the lower body. The group of men subsequently fled on foot. They were described only as black males.

Daniels was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Pratt said.
