The Long Beach Airport unveiled the newest addition to their property Thursday, a six tree “Solar Forest” that will harness the sun to provide environment-friendly energy to the airport.

Mayor Foster and Airport Director Christine Anderson were on hand for the announcement, and though the conference started out under predictably cloudy weather, the sun emerged midway through Foster’s speech.

As the sun began to reveal itself, the solar panels rotated accordingly, positioning themselves in the way of the sun’s rays to harness the most possible energy at any time.  The panels are expected to reduce 500,000 pounds of carbon dioxide produced by the airport throughout their 25-year lifetime.
