The Mayor stood alongside representatives from the Police and Fire Departments and asked that residents in danger of possible flooding use common sense in preparing their homes. Free sand is available at four city fire departments (residents must bring their own shovels and fill bags):
Station No. 7 – 2295 Elm Ave.
Station No. 12 – 6509 Gundry Ave.
Station No. 13 – 2475 Adriatic Ave.
Station No. 14 – 5200 Eliot St.
All other fire stations will provide a maximum of ten filled bags to each residence.
Residents are also urged to stay away from storm drains and flood controls. It is believed that the city’s flood control system should be able to handle the level of expected rain as long as all systems work properly.
Last weekend’s flooding of some West Long Beach homes was due to a clogged Edison storm drain that has been cleared and is now working properly, the Mayor said.
