Firefighters doused a blaze that burned about 2 acres of brush alongside the 710 Freeway near the 405 Freeway Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

Video provided to the Long Beach Post showed flames just feet from a guardrail.

Two fire engines were dispatched shortly after 2:10 p.m. to the scene of the dual fires on the eastern and western flanks of the 710 south of the 405 interchange, Capt. Matt Dobberpuhl said.

The department sent out two more engines and knocked down the blaze on the eastern flank at 2:30 p.m, Dobberpuhl said. In all, 18 firefighters responded to the blaze, according to Long Beach Fire Capt. Jack Crabtree.

The blaze was completely knocked down around 3:04 p.m., Crabtree said. Crews were still there around 3:30 p.m. making sure nothing flared back up.

“They are going through all of the hotspots and overhauling,” he said.

Police shut down nearby roadways and the CHP shut down portions of the freeway as crews battled the blaze.

The cause is still undetermined and there were no reports of injuries.
