County officials have released locations of the new vote centers for the March 3 presidential primary election, with Long Beach hosting 34 of the 901 vote centers in Los Angeles County.

Here is the list of vote centers in Long Beach:

While the number of vote centers is drastically lower than the polling places constituents are used to—the city clerk’s office noted that recent citywide elections had over 200 polling places—the new model allows for a longer voting period instead of just on Election Day.

Goodbye polling places, hello vote centers: county seeks community input on 2020 sites

In Long Beach, seven vote centers will be open for 11 days (starting Feb. 22) and 27 will be open for four days (starting Feb. 29). All vote centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

The switch to vote centers is intended to make voting more accessible and easier as well as eliminating 90% of the cases in which people are forced to vote provisionally. This had happened if a voters appeared at the wrong polling place. Now, Los Angeles County voters can vote at any of the 901 vote centers.

City officials also noted that residents in council districts 1 to 7 and two-thirds of council district 8 will be receiving vote-by-mail ballots in accordance with the Voter’s Choice Act. These districts fall into Congressional District 47, which also includes parts of Orange County.

“Because Orange County is a Vote By Mail VCA election, all voters in the Congressional District 47 will receive a Vote By Mail ballot,” city clerk officials stated.

Vote-by-mail ballots can be dropped off at any Los Angeles County vote center, however, voters can choose to surrender their ballots and vote at a vote center instead.

The new locations are part of the Voting Solutions for All People project, which also includes the roll-out of new ballot-marking devices.

While the modernized voting system has faced criticism, and even a lawsuit regarding how candidates are listed, it was certified by Secretary of State Alex Padilla late January.
