Water services were disrupted and roads were closed after water spilled onto an East Village street yesterday evening when a private developer working on a seven-story residential complex hit a main break during construction.

The incident, which happened at about 5:00PM at Alamitos Avenue and 1st Street, closed roads in the area and disrupted water services to 17 customers—a mix of businesses and residences, according to Long Beach Water Department public information officer Kaylee Weatherly.

The amount of water spilled was not immediately disclosed.

City crews worked through the night to contain the water and repair the damaged main break, Weatherly said. Service was fully restored to customers by Friday morning.

The development, known as The Alamitos, is one of three new developments expected to create a combined 348 new housing units in the city’s downtown core.
