The Belmont Heights Community Association is gathering donations of food, clothes and hygiene products this weekend to collect items that will be distributed by charitable organizations to people in need.
The donation event will take place on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the Belmont Heights United Methodist Church at 317 Termino Ave.
Donors are asked to load the items in the back of their cars and drive into the parking lot where volunteers will unload the donations.
For those who can’t make it to the event Saturday, the association is encouraging donations in the form of delivered groceries. People who use delivery services for groceries, like Instacart or Amazon Fresh, can have food delivered on Saturday or Sunday to the front porch at 241 Loma Ave., Long Beach, 90803.
“We’re collecting any canned and dry foods along with personal hygiene items for the Long Beach Community Table,” the association said in an email. “This organization distributes weekly groceries, clothing and toiletries to more than 2,500 homeless individuals, low-income families, students, seniors, veterans and homebound people with disabilities.”
For those wanting to donate clothing, the association’s theme this week is work clothes.
If you can’t donate this weekend, the community association hosts them on the last Saturday of each month. The association can be reached at 562-285-3860.
