A weekend checkpoint held on Artesia Boulevard just east of Cherry Avenue in North Long Beach netted one arrest, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced today.

In a release issued this afternoon, police said the DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint, held between 7:00PM Saturday, July 30 and 3:00AM Sunday, July 31, resulted in 338 vehicles screened, three Field Sobriety Tests performed and the one DUI-alcohol suspect arrested.

Additionally, 11 drivers were cited and arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked, 13 drivers were cited for unlicensed driving and three citations were issued for unsafe driving.

The LBPD reminded readers that drunk driving is preventable, and recommended using the California Office of Traffic Safety Designated Driver VIP mobile app to find businesses offering incentives as a way to celebrate their life-saving commitment.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To report a drunk driver, 9-1-1.
