Police say they’ve arrested a driver who may have been intoxicated when he crashed into a pole in Seal Beach Monday morning, killing a passenger in his vehicle.
The driver, who police identified as 39-year-old Los Angeles resident Victor Alfonso Campos Carranza, was traveling in the area of Seal Beach Boulevard, just south of North Gate Road, sometime around 2 a.m. when he crashed into a pole, according to authorities. The area is just east of Leisure World.
The impact of the crash caused the car to roll over, ejecting a woman in his passenger from the vehicle, Seal Beach Police said.
It’s not clear what caused Campos Carranza to crash. When officers responded to the scene, they arrested the Los Angeles resident on suspicion of driving under the influence, causing bodily injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, police said.
He was taken to a local hospital and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Authorities have not publicly identified her.
Several lanes in the area were closed off for hours as authorities investigated the crash, police said.
