A woman who was hospitalized in critical condition last week after crashing her car just north of Long Beach City College’s Pacific Coast Campus has died, police announced Tuesday afternoon.
Police say officers were notified of the crash in the 2100 block of Orange Avenue sometime around 12:55 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located the woman inside her vehicle suffering from critical injuries, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Long Beach Fire Department personnel also responded to the crash and rendered aid to the woman before transporting her to a local hospital for further treatment, the LBPD said.
On Tuesday, detectives were told the woman had died from her injuries. Her identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The woman appears to have been driving southbound in a 2014 Nissan on Orange Avenue when she crossed into the northbound lanes and struck two unoccupied parked vehicles along a curb, police said.
While authorities are still investigating the crash, speed is believed to have been a factor, the LBPD said. No other injuries were reported.
The LBPD has now publicly reported 42 traffic deaths this year.
