A woman was hospitalized after a car hit her while she was crossing the street near the Los Angeles River, according to Long Beach Police.

It wasn’t immediately clear just how bad her injuries were, but police shut down the stretch of Anaheim Street where she was hit while they investigated.

Police said the crash happened around 5:40 a.m. on westbound Anaheim near Oregon Avenue, which is just before Anaheim crosses over the river and 710 Freeway.

The woman was crossing Anaheim outside of a crosswalk when the car hit her, police said. The driver stayed at the scene, according to the LBPD.

“Collision investigation detectives are on scene and Westbound Anaheim Street at Oregon Avenue will be closed until the investigation is completed,” police said in an email.

Long Beach sent out an alert saying the area would be shut down for an extended period of time.
