A woman was shot Saturday night in Downtown Long Beach and hospitalized, according to authorities.

Officers on patrol heard gunshots at about 4:55 p.m. near the 300 block of Pine Avenue, according to Long Beach Police Department spokesman Brandon Fahey.

“The officers canvassed the area and located a female adult victim suffering from potential gunshot wounds to the lower body not believed life-threatening, however,” Fahey said. She was taken to a hospital by paramedics.

Officers detained a person of interest at the scene, seized a firearm and located shell casings and other evidence that a shooting occurred, he said. No other injuries in the area were reported.

Neither the woman’s name or age was released. Investigators were working to determine the motive for the shooting, Fahey said.
