A stabbing left a woman injured early Sunday morning, said the Long Beach Police Department.

According to the police department, officers responded to a call regarding a stabbing in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Rhea Street at around 5:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body, who then received medical care from the Long Beach Fire Department and was transported to a local hospital, LBPD said.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the woman was in an alley when she had a physical altercation with a man, which escalated when he stabbed her with a knife, said police. The victim then fled and called police.

According to the victim, the incident took place in the area of 20th Street and Pacific Avenue, LBPD said.

Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate a crime scene, said the police.

Suspect information is under investigation, and the investigation is ongoing.
