The trusted caregivers at Cambrian Homecare say what makes their work so meaningful and effective are the special, lifelong relationships built with the clients they serve and support.
In-home care, for seniors or disabled people, can and should be a person-centric continuum of care that “treats the whole person, starting where they are at and walking alongside them on their journey,” explains GayLynn Motta, LCSW, ACHP-SW, Cambrian Manager of Quality Assurance and Case Management.
“The relationship, communication and trust between the client and caregiver is paramount in successful ongoing care,” says Motta, who has nearly four decades of experience in the field and personal experience with Cambrian providing care for her own family members.
Part of her job at the privately-owned Southern California company is to ensure the right matches are made between clients and caregivers, who provide services that include assistance with the activities of daily living, palliative care, and support for those with special needs—as well as companionship. Cambrian’s caregivers and clients participate in individual needs assessments and interviews that help ensure good pairings of both necessary skill sets and interests.

Cambrian Operations Manager Michael Hernández, who oversees the company’s developmental and intellectual disability services, says there’s no question what a difference a personal connection can make to the quality of life for both clients and caregivers.
As just one of example, Hernández recalls working with a mother who needed support for her teenage son:
“His mother needed someone who could supervise him while she was away at work and also help him with his personal care needs. Beyond the physical help, she was looking for someone who could also be a friend to her son, as he was having difficulty connecting with peers at school,” he says. “We were able to match this client with a caregiver who shares a common interest in Legos, and this family now considers their caregiver part of the family!”
With more than eight years of industry experience, Hernández emphasizes that Cambrian sets itself apart by its commitment to recognizing that each client and their family face their own unique circumstances and challenges.
“I have never encountered a company that is more willing to roll up their sleeves, get creative and work together to find a solution,” he says. “The matching of a client and caregiver can make all the difference. The personal connection and consistency offer both parties a sense of stability and trust.”
The work they do at Cambrian, Motta and Hernández agree, allows them to apply their extensive professional and life experience to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
“This profession allows me to make a difference in someone’s life and impact my community in a positive way,” Hernández says. “I love connecting with the people who we serve, learning their story and helping them achieve their goals. What an honor it is to be entrusted with the care of loved ones—it is a responsibility that I do not take lightly.”
Cambrian is actively seeking care providers who are driven by their passion and commitment to helping others. If you are interested in being a caregiver please contact GayLynn or Michael directly at 562-498-1800. Tell them about your goals and have them help answer your questions.
