New affordable senior housing coming to Long Beach

Long Beach seniors will soon have access to a brand-new affordable housing option as Alamitos on 4th prepares to open in January 2027. Located at 300 Alamitos Avenue, the community will provide affordable apartment homes as well as supportive services and amenities that promote independence and community. Prospective residents can apply between July 27 and August 25, 2026, ahead of a rental lottery set for September 3, 2026.

Mercy Housing California, in partnership with CTY Housing, developed Alamitos on 4th. This 82-unit affordable housing community for adults ages 55 and older offers one-bedroom apartment homes, providing much-needed housing opportunities for low-income seniors, including individuals with lived experience of homelessness.

40 units are reserved for households earning up to 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and will be filled through referrals from the Coordinated Entry System (CES) for Project-Based Vouchers through the Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach. An additional 33 units are reserved for households earning up to 50% of AMI, while eight units are reserved for households earning up to 60% of AMI, expanding access to affordable housing across a range of income levels.

Amenities for an active and connected lifestyle

At Alamitos on 4th, residents will find a thoughtfully designed community offering spaces where residents can gather with neighbors, participate in activities and enjoy everyday life.

Residents will have access to welcoming amenities, including a landscaped courtyard, outdoor lounge areas, a fire pit, and community garden planters. A dedicated community room will serve as a hub for social events, recreational programs, and resident gatherings.

Alamitos on 4th is pet-friendly and features a dog run, for residents’ four-legged companions.

Supportive services for residents

An important part of the Alamitos on 4th community will be the on-site services available to residents to help meet day-to-day needs and contribute to a thriving building and community.

Residents will have access to a Resident Services Coordinator and two dedicated Case Managers who will connect them with resources and services that promote housing stability and help residents successfully maintain their homes.

Health and wellness workshops are also among the planned offerings, creating additional opportunities to build connections and enhance overall well-being.

Rental application and lottery

Rental applications for Alamitos on 4th are available July 27 through August 25, 2026. Applications may be submitted in person, by mail or by email. Applications submitted by mail must be postmarked by August 25, 2026.

The rental lottery is scheduled for September 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the temporary leasing office located at 941 East Pacific Coast Highway, Long Beach, CA 90802. Seating for the lottery will be limited. Attendance at the lottery is not required to be considered for a home at Alamitos on 4th. Results will be announced and made available after the lottery concludes.
