11:35am | Long Beach State’s Nick Rascon has been named to the USA Men’s Junior National Water Polo Team and will participate in the 2011 FINA Junior World Championships in Volos, Greece, from Aug. 27 to Sept. 4.
Rascon (Laguna Hills/El Toro High School) earned honorable mention All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors as a true freshman last season after leading the 49ers in goals with 37. He finished 13th in the MPSF in goals averaging 1.68 per game. Rascon scored goals in 20 of LBSU’s 22 games, including a season-high five against Fresno Pacific.
Rascon was also a member of the 2008 and 2009 U.S. Junior National Teams. He helped the 2009 team to an eighth-place finish at the Junior World Championships in Sibenik, Croatia, and in 2008 helped the junior team to a first-place finish at the Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro.
