From LBSU reports
Continuing a four-game road stretch, the Long Beach State women’s basketball team (3-14, 0-5 BWC) is searching for its first Big West Conference victory at UC Riverside (8-9, 4-1 BWC) on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 5pm.
The Beach, which is coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss at Cal State Northridge, their seventh in a row, trails in its all-time series with UC Riverside by a 10-8 count and has dropped the last seven meetings between the two teams. In the last outing on Feb. 13, 2008, the Highlanders topped the 49ers, 67-39, in Riverside. LBSU owns a 4-4 road record vs. UCR.
UCR is coming off a 72-62 triumph at CSUN last week (Jan. 14), extending its current win streak to three games. Earlier in the year, the Highlanders picked up their first victory over a ranked opponent in their eight-year Division I history with a 50-47 upset over then No. 16 Vanderbilt. On the season, senior Kemie Nkele has led UCR, averaging a team-best 16.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Nkele recently claimed her ninth career Big West Player of the Week award after pouring in 32 points against the Matadors. Senior Seyram Gbewonyo is also averaging double figures with 10.5 ppg.
