While Long Beach State Women’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball are back home after uneven road stints, the Women’s Golf team are still out there, led by All-American Kay Hoey.  Hoey was in winning position before recording a nine-over par 81 in the final round, to finish third at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.  Hoey committed five bogey’s for the day and two double-bogey’s on the eighth and final hole.  Her mark of 81 was the highest score in her four-year career as a 49er since shooting an 80 in the final round of the PING Arizona State Invitational in 2006.

Stanford swept the honors in both the team and individual competition as the Cardinals shot a three-round total of 41-over 905 (303-303-299), 16 strokes ahead of second place Oregon.  The Cardinal’s Mari Chun won the medalist honors by four shots with a 218 (75-71-72).  She was the only player to shoot an even-par on Wednesday.

As a team, the 49ers finished in sixth, with a three-day total of 73-over 937 (316-303-318).  Freshman Lee Lopez carded a five-over 77 in the final round to finish in a three-way tie for seventh.  Lopez recorded a 77 in the first round and a 73 in the second to accumulate a total of 227 for the tournament.

The 49ers are off the next two weeks as they prepare for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 27-29, at the Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas.
