In the first round of the CIF Softball Playoffs, the match ups between the #2 seeds from different leagues are always the best.  It’s always a coin flip.  And the game in Upland yesterday was not exception as the Wilson Bruins traveled to see the Highlanders.  The two teams battled in a low scoring affair for most of the afternoon, but Upland got the big hit Wilson knew they needed and beat the Bruins, 4-3.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Duarte held the Highlanders in check for six innings, allowing just one run on six hits with seven strikeouts.  However in the seventh with Wilson nursing a two-run lead, Upland got to the righty with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with one out.  Head coach Chris Leveque went out to talk to the young pitcher, but decided to leave her in the game and finish.  However, Highlander Jackie Caballero drove a 1-1 pitch deep over the left field fence to win it in walk-off fashion.

The Bruins finish the season 16-12 and 9-3 in the Moore League.
