Reports From LBSU

Long Beach State baseball was one of 841 teams nationally recognized by the NCAA today as part of the NCAA’s Academic Performance Program, earning a Public Recognition Award from the governing body.

The award was given to all teams that scored in the Top 10 percentile for their sport in 2009-2010 Academic Progress Rate, or APR. While full scores have not been released, scores in the Top 10 percent of all sports ranged from 978 to a perfect 1000.

In baseball, 30 Division I programs were honored including Long Beach State. The APR provides a view of a team’s academic success by tracking the progress of each student-athlete during the school year.

This is the second academic award that the Dirtbags have received this month. Sophomore outfielder Brennan Metzger was named CoSIDA first-team Academic All-District, an award that measures dual success on the field and in the classroom.
