And so after 39 games, it all comes down to this…

Lakewood vs. Poly, Blair Field, 6:30pm
If the entire Moore League baseball season is any indicator, we’re in for quite a Wednesday night at Blair Field, just like the first meeting between these two teams.  If the Lancers win tonight, the title is theirs.  If Poly wins (plus Millikan and Wilson wins) then the league season ends with a four-way tie at the top of the standings.  Each team gets a share of the league crown and will have to flip coins or draw straws or choose envelopes to decide playoff seeding.

But these two teams are not thinking about any playoffs quite yet.  These two squads want the Moore League, and badly.  We could see both coaches empty both bullpen and bench, trying anything and everything to hold onto a slight lead or push over a league-winning run.

If you’re watching trends, the Moore League bats have been hot as of late, so we could get that classic 6-5 last-inning drama with something crazy like four lead changes.  Of course, a 1-0 pitchers duel is just as likely with guys like Tyler Maxwell and Shane Watson on the mound.

It would be easy for us to list all the players who have played huge roles on the high school diamond this season because it’s expected, but none of the big games this season have gone as expected.  It’s Moore League baseball in 2010, if we’ve learned anything so far it’s that we all really haven’t learned anything.  We do know who will take the field tonight, and that’s enough to need to be there.

Millikan vs. Jordan, Blair Field, 3:30pm
The Rams need to take care of business before the marquee match up to make the four-way tie at the top a possibility.  In the first meeting between these two, Matt Clampitt returned to the field and sophomore Jimmy Norman dazzled on the mound on the way to a 6-0 victory over the Panthers.

Wilson vs. Compton, MLB Field, 6:30pm
The Bruins are in the same boat as the Rams, and need a win to stay in the hunt.  In the first meeting at Skip Rowland Field, Wilson got it going late and ended up cruising to a 16-2 victory over Compton.
