Wilson sent 23 batters to the plate in the third and fourth inning and mashed eight doubles in the two frames on their way to a 15-7 victory over the visiting Poly Jackrabbits yesterday.  The Bruins felt at home in the friendly (small) confines of Skip Rowland Field on the Wilson High campus and mashed 16 hits.

“We’re comfortable here,” said Wilson head coach Andy Hall of the home field where his team hasn’t lost since opening day.  “We started slow and were taking too many first pitch strikes, but we settled in and let it fly.”

Poly took the early lead against pitcher Chase DeJong behind great hitting from junior captain Thomas Walker.  His solo home run in the first inning was followed in the third inning by a double off the center field fence that moved a runner to third.  Two pitches later Jeff Turley drove in Eric Gonzalez for the 2-0 lead.

Tyler Maxwell took the hill for Poly and cruised through the Wilson lineup in the first two innings, but the Bruins sent 12 batters to the plate in the third inning and took full advantage of the short fence in right field. They bounced six balls off the chain link for extra bases and scored eight times.  Again in the fourth Wilson batted around and racked up seven more hits and seven more runs.

“They were relentless,” said Poly head coach Toby Hess.  “We need to pitch better than we did today if we want to do anything… they took advantage of the short fence, but we were playing on the same field.  Good hitters do what (Thomas Walker) did today, they just had more good hitters.”

Walker had the most impressive line of the day, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI.  But that was not nearly enough to hang with the Bruins on this afternoon.  Every Bruin reached base as Phillip Visico led it off going 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.  Cody Harris had two doubles and two RBI while Chris Hubbard added a double, an RBI and scored two runs.

“Our confidence level is good, and we’re starting to play some good ball,” said Hall.  His team is now 7-3 in the Moore League just like the Jackrabbits, and there could be a four-way tie for first-place after the final regular season games next week.  “That’s just a testament to quality of the league… it’s unfortunate for someone who has to go in as the fourth seed, but it’s not like they will be thrown to the wolves becuase we can all defend ourselves.”
