The top of the Wilson Bruin lineup did enough damage in the first four innings last night at Blair Field to take down the Jordan Panthers, 18-1.  Seniors Phil Visico, Blake Cooper, Cody Harris and Chris Hubbard combined to go 6-for-9 with five RBI, six runs scored and four stolen bases on three rotations through the lineup.

“It’s senior laden at the top of the lineup, but it should be, this is their team,” said Wilson head coach Andy Hall.  “It’s in their hands at this point.”

The Bruins rode the momentum started by the leaders at the top and scored in all but two innings.  The offense amassed 15 hits and 12 walks on their way to 18 runs while Harris (3IP) Riley Parker (2IP) and Manual Barragan (2IP) took the mound and combined to give up just two hits and two walks.

The Panther’s night was highlighted by a great throw from David Aispuro in the fourth to cut a runner down and end the inning, and the fact that Christian Hurtado was able to walk off the diamond under his own power. The sophomore second baseman came on to pitch in relief and took a comebacker off the side of his head. He was cleared by a doctor in the dugout and was taken to the Emergency Room for precautionary measures.

Said Jordan head coach Marc Prager, “We made a commitment to go young this season, and we’re sticking to that.  This group will finish the year, play all summer, play all fall, and be ready for next season.  We’re creating depth for the first time in awhile.”

Wilson improves to 6-3 and will host Poly on Friday at 4pm (note the time change).  Jordan falls to 1-8 and will travel to Cabrillo on Friday.
