Long Beach State junior Reina Rogers fired a 73 in Monday’s second round of the Big West Conference Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club to tie for second place and remain just one stroke off the pace of UC Davis’ Chelsea Stelzmiller, who sits on top of the leaderboard at three-over 147.

Rogers’ scorecard for the second round was highlighted by her first career eagle as it came at the par-five No. 10 hole. She also had three birdies for the day with just four bogeys and one double-bogey for a 36-hole total of 148 (+4).

The 49ers shot a 304 to move up to second and hold a two shot lead over No. 40 UC Irvine as the Anteaters finished the day with a 306. Thirty-first ranked UC Davis leads the field of seven teams as the Aggies hold a comfortable 14 stroke lead over The Beach.

Sophomore Noelle Zavaleta recorded an impressive second round as she carded a 74 for a 151 (+2) as she moved up from seventh to fifth. Zavaleta committed only two bogeys for the round, while recording 17 pars, 15 of them coming in consecutively after the par-three No. 3 hole.

Freshman Simone Hoey improved by two shots with a 75 as she finished the day tied for sixth. Hoey carded two double-bogeys and four bogeys with five birdies for a 152 (+8).

Sophomore Monica Villarreal struggled with an 82 as she dropped from 13th to 22nd for a 160 (+16), while junior Lindsey McAtee finished with an 82 to tie for 25th.

Final round action concludes on Tuesday with teams teeing off at 8 a.m. (PST). The 49ers are scheduled for an 8:40 a.m. tee time. Live action can be followed on golfstat.com.
