Reports From LBSU 

Coming off a doubleheader sweep against Illinois-Chicago, the Long Beach State softball team will make the short trip to Los Angeles for a single game against fifth-ranked UCLA on Friday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. (PDT) at Easton Stadium.

A GLANCE AT THE BRUINS
UCLA (21-4) has won its last seven games as it defeated Cal Poly 5-3 and 4-1 in a home doubleheader on Tuesday. Megan Langenfeld leads the offense with a .556 batting average, nine home runs and 27 RBI. Samantha Camuso is also hitting .415 with six homers.

Donna Kerr has paced a four-person pitching staff with a 10-1 record, 1.65 ERA and 82 strikeouts. Aleah Macon (0.86 ERA, 57 K’s) and Langenfeld (1.00 ERA) have also been solid on the mound for the Bruins.

SERIES RECORDS
The Beach trails in its series with UCLA, 63-9. The Bruins have won eight of the last 10 meetings, including a 4-2 victory in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Regionals at Easton Stadium last May.

DEBAUN’S STREAK
Freshman Caitrin DeBaun hit safely in all five contests of the San Diego Classic II, including a 2-for-3 performance against Oregon State. DeBaun also had an RBI in the first four games of the tournament. The Garden Grove, Calif., native finished the weekend with a .562 batting average (6-for-13).

RING ONE UP FOR REYES
Senior Brandy Reyes also had a strong outing last weekend. Reyes finished with five hits, two multiple-hit games and four RBI. Against Oregon State, she went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in, two of which came off one swing of the bat as she connected for her first home run of the season.

FOR THE RECORD
Brooke Turner is making her way up several categories in the 49er career record books. She currently ranks second in strikeouts (467), tied for sixth in shutouts (25), seventh in wins (53), and ninth in complete games (59) and appearances (84).

ONE-HIT WONDER
Sophomore Taylor Petty put forth a solid effort at the Long Beach State Invitational (March 12-14), going 2-0 with a 1.40 earned run average and 21 strikeouts in 20.0 innings. Petty led The Beach to a win over Buffalo, tossing a one-hit complete game shutout. It was Petty’s second career one-hitter as she accomplished the feat in her first collegiate start at San Diego in 2008. The San Pedro native currently leads the 49ers with a 2.35 ERA and 77 strikeouts.

ON DECK
Long Beach State will entertain San Diego State in a single game at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, before opening Big West action against Pacific, April 2-3.
