Jazmine Rhodes ended her excellent career at Poly in the worst way possible—two yellow cards meant she spent her team’s final game of the season (and the final game of her time at Poly) on the bench in street clothes. We spoke after the game and she said it was “miserable” not being able to play like that. Fortunately for Rhodes, she had another opportunity to play on the high school level before she leaves for Cincinnati to become a Bearcat in July.
In the SoCal Senior All-Star game a short while back, Rhodes played in the North/South game under Los Al coach Brent Whitfield. Rhodes scored both of her team’s goals in a 2-2 tie, earning game MVP awards while representing Poly. For her first it was a Rhodes specialty: top shelf with enough power that even though the opposing team’s goalie caught it, she did so behind the line. After that she got a fast break and went by the goalie for the tap-in.
If she stays as frustrated as she was after her team’s final game on the plane ride out to Cincinnati…watch out, NCAA.
