Reports From LBSU
49er water polo assistant coach Heather Moody has been selected as a member of the class of 2010 slated for induction into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
Moody was a two-time Olympian and a member of the Women’s Senior National Team for eight years, helping Team USA earn a Silver Medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Syndey and then a Bronze Medal four years later in Athens. Moody was also a member of the 2003 team that won the Gold at the World Championships, and was twice named the USA Water Polo Player of the Year.
Moving to coaching, Moody was named the Interim Head Coach for the women’s national team in 2005 and led the Americans to a Silver Medal at the FINA World Championships. Once Guy Baker was hired as the team’s head coach, Moody has since served as an assistant with Team USA, including the team’s 2008 Gold Medal victory in the Beijing Olympics.
Moody is in her second year as the lead assistant for both the men’s and women’s water polo programs at Long Beach State.
Inductees were chosen through a process that included open nominations by their peers, evaluation of their candidacy by the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame Committee, and final ratification of the committee’s recommendations by the USA Water Polo Board of Directors. USA Water Polo first inducted a Hall of Fame class in 2004.
The induction dinner and ceremony is scheduled for June 12, 2010 in San Diego.
