CIF GIRLS’ SOCCER SECOND ROUND
Poly vs. Capistrano Valley
Poly High, 3pm
Unfortunately, the victory via penalty kicks over Santa Barbara in the first round came with a price for the Poly Jackrabbits. Senior forward Jazmine Rhodes will more than likely sit out because of two yellow cards last week. The second foul, and subsequent red, came in overtime on a challenge that some have deemed petty. Usually, the red card brings with it a suspension that’s based on a referee report. So far, no report has been reported (excuse the redundancy) so there’s a slight chance Rhodes could play.
The back up plan is hindered as well with senior Keyana Thompson-Shaw playing in pain after coming back from major knee surgery. The result of all that means Poly will only start two seniors today in the second round.
“It’s a huge blow,” says Poly head coach Teri Collins. “Capo Valley is amazing. I’d love to list the weaknesses, but there really aren’t any… I just hope they don’t travel well… they have a great player, Jordan Marada (#10). They’ll go as far as she takes them. When she scores, they win.”
Alexis Leyba and the Poly midfield will have their hands full, but that doesn’t mean its impossible.
