Long Beach State left 11 men on base and fell victim to two big innings in a 6-2 loss to Oregon on Saturday night. Kellen Hoime was 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Dirtbags.

The Dirtbags got on the board in the first inning, as Derek Legg doubled with one out to get on base, and after a single by Hoime, came home to score on a grounder by Tre Dennis.

Oregon rallied in the fifth inning to take the lead however. J.J. Altobelli started the inning with a single, and after Andrew Gagnon got the first out, a double by KC Serna tied the game at 1-1. Serna would then score after stealing third on a grounder by Marcus Piazzisi to give the Ducks the lead.

That advantage would increase the next inning, as Ryan Hambright walked to get a rally started. Gagnon picked up the second out of the inning, but four straight hits would score three runs, putting the Ducks in the lead 5-1.

The Dirtbags added a late run after a double by Jonathan Jones to start the eighth inning. Legg hit a long fly ball to advance Jones to third, and then he scored on an RBI groundout by Hoime. Oregon answered in the top of the ninth on Long Beach State’s second error of the game to get the final margin back to four.

Long Beach State concludes the first weekend of the season on the road, facing a Big West opponent in an out of conference game. The Dirtbags travel to Cal State Fullerton, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
