The Long Beach State men’s golf team recorded a three-over par 358 in Sunday’s inaugural Travis Mathew Battle at the Beach golf tournament at Pelican Hill Resort’s Ocean North course, to finish in sixth place. The 49ers are serving as co-hosts of the tournament along with UCLA.

Oregon State leads the field of 14 teams with a seven-under 348 as the Beavers hold a one-stroke lead over second place Arkansas (349) and four-strokes over third place San Diego State (352). UCLA finished in fifth at one-under 354.

Freshman Raymond Ho led LBSU with an impressive four-under 67 as he tied for third. Ho recorded seven birdies for the day and an eagle at the par-five 540 yard No. 8 hole.

Freshman Benjamin Lein fired a 69 to tie for ninth, while classmate Philip Chian, playing as an individual, carded a 72 as he tied for 34th.

Sophomore Kevin Roy and senior Robbie Berton tied for 38th with a two-over 73, while sophomore Austin Love tied for 63rd at five-over 76.

Senior Michael Drake finished with a 77 to tie for 67th.

Diego Velasquez and Mike Barry of Oregon State sits on top of the leaderboard as both players carded a five-under 66 to hold a one shot lead over two players tied for second place.
