10:00pm | Long Beach State swept the doubles point and grabbed an easy win over Maryland, defeating the Terrapins 6-1 in the first of two East Coast road matches. With the win, the No. 51 49ers improve to 1-1 on the season.
Long Beach State played three practically identical matches in doubles, earning three 8-6 wins. #58 Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse defeated Miller/MacKeever at No. 1 doubles, and then Cantlay/Luzar defeated Huschke/Kurkan to seal the point.
In singles, Alawi was again the first finisher, defeating Julia Huschke at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0. The other top two singles were also over quickly, as Deborah Armstrong defeated Lisa Miller at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1 andAnais Dallara defeated Maggie MacKeever 6-2, 6-3 to seal the victory for the 49ers.
Rachel Manasse and Anna Jeczmionka also picked up singles wins, and Julie Luzar put up a valiant effort at No. 5. After losing the first set 7-6, she won the tiebreaker in the second to force a super tiebreaker, but fell 10-8 for the 49ers’ lone loss on the day.
Long Beach State has a quick turnaround, returning to the court at 10 a.m. PT on Sunday to face George Washington in the final match of this road trip.
