10:00pm |  One of the best lessons in “trickle down effect” is college football recruiting.  Just ask the University of Washington and head coach Steve Sarkisian as John Timu and Princeton Fuimaono are the latest Moore League defenders to head to the Pacific Northwest.

During the 2008 CIF Pac-5 playoffs, the Lakewood Lancers and Jordan Panthers were the #2 and #3 seed out of the Moore League.  The Panthers were leaning heavily on junior QB/DB John Timu and junior LB/RB Princeton Fuimaono. The Lancers were letting senior defensive end Talia Crichton run wild.  All the while, a young head coach with a purple visor on his head and SoCal talent headed North on his mind seemed to be stalking every sideline.  When Timu was sprung by a Fuimaono block and  took a quarterback draw 70 yards to paydirt against Mater Dei, Sarkisian was there.  When Crichton racked up strip-sacks in the semifinal game, Sarkisian was there.

Flash forward a few months, and Crichton is signing up to be a self-proclaimed ‘Dawg.  Then last summer Timu and Fuimaono decided very early on UW as well.  While working on our Moore League football preview we talked to the seniors about their early decision and both mentioned Sarkisian’s enthusiasm and Crichton’s presence as a major deciding factor.  The three All-Moore League defenders are friends from middle school days in North Long Beach.  Despite injury in 2009, Sarkisian and UW stuck to their early offers to both players and the J-Town blue will be traded in for UW purple.
