No. 50 Long Beach State took the court for the first time in 2010 on Sunday, starting the season three days later than previously scheduled due to local rains. However, the delay did not lead to an upset, as the 49ers were dropped 6-1 by the No. 9 USC Women of Troy on the road.

Long Beach State’s day started out in doubles as USC swept all three matches to take the point. No. 58 Jaklin Alawi and Anais Dallara fought a tough match with Lyndsay Kinstler and Maria Sanchez at No. 1 doubles before falling 9-8 in a tiebreaker. The 49ers lost in the other two doubles matches to fall behind 1-0 after doubles play.

In singles, Long Beach State’s best result came from sophomore Anais Dallara, who outlasted Sarah Fansler at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2 to help Long Beach State get on the board. Alawi fell in three sets to No. 39 Alison Ramos at No. 3 singles 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, and Anna Jeczmionka pushed Lyndsay Kinstler to a 6-2, 6-4 score in a loss.

Long Beach State stays on the road next week, travelling to the east coast to take on Maryland and George Washington on the weekend. Beach Tennis starts against the Terrapins on January 30.
