The Long Beach State track and field team is set to host its 19th annual Black & Gold Intersquad competition in conjunction with its third annual alumni meet this Saturday, Jan. 16, at Jack Rose Track. The Distance Carnival will also take place later in the day, beginning at 5 p.m.

The Black & Gold/Alumni Meet is closed to outside competition as it will feature current 49er student-athletes, who will be divided into two co-ed teams. The alumni will also go head-to-head with their fellow Long Beach State graduates. The day will begin with the sprint, hurdle and field events starting at 11 a.m.

Post-event festivities will follow the afternoon’s competition at approximately 2 p.m., during which the alumni awards and 2010 49er team captains will be announced.

The all-day event will conclude with the Twilight Distance Carnival, which is open to the public. The Distance Carnival is slated to get underway at 5 p.m.

Long Beach State officially kicks off the 2010 indoor season on Jan. 29-30, when it takes part in the Pole Vault Summit (Reno, Nev.) and the University of Washington Invitational.
