Wilson vs. Poly: A quick glance at the box score and you might think the Wilson/Poly tilt yesterday afternoon was a close one.  But for everyone who was there saw different as the Bruins stay perfect in the Moore League with a 4-2 victory over visiting Poly.

The Bruins went to work early as
seniors Tony Gonzalez and Alexis Marin pushed forward.  The two captains have been playing together for eight years at the lower levels, and it showed on a quick give-and-go that yielded a penalty kick in the eighth minute.  Gonzalez got a score of his own in the 24th minute when he netted a bouncing ball in the box off of a set piece.  He would get the goal of the day in the 68th minute with a cracking header into the side netting.

But even though the Bruins were getting quality on almost every trip into the box, the right side of the Poly offense was working hard for every inch.  They earned five corner kicks and got two good shots at an opening goal, but the young Wilson defense stepped up.  The Jackrabbits would add two goals from Gaspar Garcia off set pieces in the second half, but they just ran out of time.

“We were here all winter break training,” said Gonzalez.  “[coach Hervin] has big plans for us.”

“When they do what I say they look organized and effective,” said Hervin. “The most organized team wins the Moore League.”

Millikan vs. Lakewood
The Rams are suffering from some injuries on the front lines, but that didn’t stop them from posting yet another shutout and improving to 15-2 with a 3-0 win over the Lancers.  Jose Rodriguez scored twice in the 59th and 69th minute.

“Last year we had a lot of senior varsity guys, they were white collar,” said Millikan coach Rod Petkovic. “This team is blue collar.  They’re ready.”
