Fresh off the first loss of the season in pool play of the Ocean View Tournament of Champions, the Poly boys’ basketball team bounced back nicely last night against Harvard-Westlake.
Sure, the Jackrabbits committed 22 turnovers and Shelton Boykin only played 10 minutes because of a lingering ankle injury, but they pulled away from Harvard-Westlake and won 75-66. The Long Beach State-bound Boykin poured in a team-high 20 points.
Poly did a nice job crashing on Westlake’s twin towers in the post—senior Erik Swoope and junior Damiene Cain—and on the offensive end the Jackrabbits went on a run early in the second half to go up 15. Ryan Anderson had 16 points, Alexis Moore had 13 and Alex Carmon added 11.
The Wolverines did get back within single digits in the fourth quarter, but Poly stayed aggressive and got to the foul line. Nate Bulleck had 22 points for Harvard-Westlake. The Jackrabbits improve to 5-1.
