Long Beach State, the 2009 Big West Champions, had five players selected as All-Big West as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Naomi Washington and Caitlin Ledoux were both named to the first-team for the second time, while setter Ashley Lee garnered her initial first-team honors, Brittney Herzog was an honorable mention, and Jocelyn Neely was named to the All-Freshman team.  Of the five, only Washington and Herzog will graduate after this year.

Outside hitters Naomi Washington and Caitlin Ledoux both earned first-team All-Big West honors for the second straight season. Washington ranked third in the conference, averaging 4.10 kills per set while Ledoux ranked sixth at 3.51 kills per set.

Lee, who earned All-Freshman honors in 2007 as an outside hitter, was named All-Big West for the first time, receiving first-team accolades. Lee ranked third in assists per set at 10.58, and guided Long Beach State to a second consecutive league championship.

Senior Brittney Herzog received All-Big West honors, earning an honorable mention one year after getting first-team honors. Herzog ranked third on the 49ers in kills, just behind Washington and Ledoux and ld the 49ers in hitting percentage at .291 on the season.

Right-side hitter Jocelyn Neely rounded out the 49ers’ 2009 selections, joining the seven-deep All-Freshman team after averaging 1.62 kills per set and handing out 58 assists, second-most on the team.

Long Beach State’s five players honored total was the most in the Big West, and the 49ers tied with UC Davis with four players earning first-team or honorable mention honors.
