Facing off against the No. 6 Loyola Marymount Lions Thursday night, the No. 8 Long Beach State 49ers scored the first goal of the game and never looked back on senior night beating the Lions, 8-6, at the Long Beach State Campus Pool.

Leading, 7-4, in the fourth quarter Alexsandr Petrovic scored a goal with 2:37 seconds left in the game to seal the victory. Petrovic scored three goals to lead the 49ers, while seniors Jeff Greenwood had two goals and Justin Koeppen had a goal in their final home game.

Long Beach State (9-11, 1-6) also got a monster game from senior Derek Wiebe-Bailey who had a game-high 15 saves and allowed only two goals through the first three periods turning away shot after shot from LMU. The 15 saves recorded by Derek Wiebe-Bailey moves him into third on the all-time 49er saves list.

The 49ers took a, 7-1, lead on goal from Alexsandr Petrovic with 5:11 left in the third period before LMU scored five of the next six goals but the 49ers held on for the victory.

The 49ers also got goals from Shane Luth and Jordan Koeppen.

Andrew Aki who scored a game-high four goals for the Lions led LMU.

The 49ers face another tough opponent in No. 15 Pacific next weekend. The game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, November 21 on the campus of Pacific. If the 49ers beat Pacific they will earn a place in the MPSF tournament.
