Hitting the road for the first time this season to take on Brethren Christian, the St. Anthony Saints left what they didn’t need at home (turnovers) and picked up what they did need on the way (a passing attack) as they got above .500 with a 14-7 win.  The Saints only had one turnover on the night.

Receiver Gerald Jackson stole the spotlight with 11 catches for 138 yards and 2 TDs.  The Brethren defensive backs were playing off nearly 10 yards, and the Saints took advantage with the short passing attack.  When the defense moved up to press coverage, coach Brian Walsh called the fade route, and Jackson hauled in a 34-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter that proved to be the game winner.

To no ones surprise, Brethren fed their running back Randall Ryan.  He did score the first touchdown of the night to give the Warriors their only lead, but the Saint defense played with punishing exuberance in the last three quarters and it showed on Ryan’s face after the contest.

“Yeah, we beat ’em up pretty good,” said Walsh.  “It took us a quarter to catch up to the speed of the game, but once we did we looked okay.  It wasn’t the prettiest, but a win is a win.  We just need to keep getting better.”

The Saints will travel next week to take on Animo Leadership.
