Long Beach State is already letting high school students attend games for free this year, as long as students provide an ID—now, in a continued effort to up attendance and increase community presence, the school has announced it will open its doors to all university faculty and staff at home games during the 2009-2010 season.
“Athletics understands the difficult times that the State of California and the CSU system are facing,” says LBSU Director of Marketing Dedan Brozino. “We hope that a special offer such as this will go a long way in continuing to advance campus support for Athletics as well as boost faculty and staff morale in this difficult time.”
Aside from the more high-falutin’ aspirations, such as morale-boosting, fans of the 49ers should be rejoicing right now. Anyone who attended last year’s men’s basketball packed-to-the-brim contest against CS Fullerton in the ‘Myd knows that a full game is a fun game, and it’s encouraging to see the university taking steps to increase attendance across the board at home games this year.
Each LBSU faculty and staff member can receive up to two free tickets per athletic event, with the opportunity to purchase two additional tickets at a discounted rate. Certain home athletic events will be considered “blackout dates” in which no free tickets will be available.
In order to receive complimentary tickets, each faculty and staff member must present a university photo ID. Tickets may be picked up on game day, but to avoid lines, it is highly recommended to pick them up as early as one week prior to the athletic event by visiting the Walter Pyramid Box Office (Hours: 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.). No phone or website orders will be accepted. The offer is good for bench seating and general admission only, and is not available for any postseason events.
2009-10 Blackout Dates:

February 4 (Men’s Basketball vs. CS Fullerton)
March 3 (Baseball vs. USC)
