The Long Beach City College men’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 non-conference loss to visiting San Diego City College on Wednesday at LBCC. The loss dropped the Vikings to 2-3 overall while San Diego City improved to 3-2-1.

SDCC scored the game’s lone goal in the 55th minute. After a Viking foul deep in their territory, Leonardo Perez ripped a shot from 25 yards out on the ensuing free kick. The shot slipped through the hands of Long Beach goalkeeper Luis Romero and trickled in the net for the eventual game-winner.

Long Beach outshot San Diego City by a 15-9 margin in the contest, but couldn’t finish on its opportunities.

LBCC’s best chance to score came in the 45th minute. Just moments before the halftime whistle, Alfredo Tapia hit a one-time shot from five-yards out off a long cross pass from the right side. His shot nailed the goal post and bounced away.

Romero posted three saves in the loss. SDCC goalkeeper German Sanchez totaled six saves in earning the shutout.

Long Beach returns to action next Thursday (Sept. 24) when it travels to San Diego City for another non-conference game at 4 pm.
