Long Beach State shot a nine-over 297 on Tuesday morning at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic to finish in 13th place. The 49ers recorded a 302 and 300 on Monday to finish the three-round tournament at 35-over 899 at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
“We played much better today,” said head coach Joey Cerulle. “I was really excited to see three of our players play at par and that everyone contributed. Our goal today was to come back with a strong finish and that’s what we did!” Idaho held onto the top spot with an 863 as the Vandals won by four strokes over Colorado State (863) and eight strokes over third place Louisville and New Mexico (867).
Freshman Simone Hoey and sophomore Noelle Zavaleta led The Beach as both players finished tied for 29th with two other individuals. Hoey shot a five-over 77, while Zavaleta shot a two-over 74 in Tuesday’s final round. Both players finished the tournament with a five-over 221.
Junior Lindsey McAtee recorded her best round of the tournament with a two-under 70 as she made a significant jump in the standings from 63rd to tie for 40th. McAtee recorded four birdies and two bogey’s for the day to finish with a three-day total of eight-over 224.
Senior Brenda Chhuor and junior Reina Rogers also had their best rounds of the tournament as Chhuor shot a four-over 76 to tie for 66th and Rogers with a five-over 77. Chhuor finished with a score of 233 (+17) and Rogers at 238 (+22).
Laura Anderson of Louisville was the individual medalist as she finished with a 10-under 206, three-strokes ahead of New Mexico’s Jodi Ewart (209).
