The Long Beach State women’s soccer team (3-3) was unable to pull off its second upset of the season as the 49ers fell to No. 10 Boston College, 4-0, at Newton Campus Field on Sunday afternoon.
The 49ers, who were facing their fourth ranked opponent in their last five games, dropped to 3-3 on the season while the Eagles remained undefeated at 6-0. BC has yet to allow a goal, outscoring its counterparts, 24-0.
Boston College dominated possession for most of the game, outshooting LBSU, 22-4, while also holding a 5-to-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Jenny Soza led The Beach with two shots, while sophomore Nicole Hubbard recorded the 49ers’ lone shot on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicoline Jorgensen had 10 saves in the loss.
BC struck first at the 29:29 mark when Gina DiMartino found the back of the net on a shot from the top of the box that deflected off a 49er defender. The Beach clamped down on defense for the remainder of the half as the Eagles took a narrow 1-0 lead into the break.
LBSU was unable to get much going in the second half, however, as BC scored three times on 15 shots. The home team went up 2-0 at 53:48 before tacking on two more goals over the next 22 minutes.
Gina DiMartino paced the Eagles with two goals on five shots, while Victoria DiMartino and Amy Caldwell also scored.
Long Beach State returns to the friendly confines of George Allen Field on Friday, Sept. 18, when it plays host to Pepperdine at 4 p.m.
