Nicole Sweetman has signed a financial aid agreement with the Long Beach State women’s soccer team, 49er head coach Mauricio Ingrassia announced Saturday.

Sweetman, a 5-foot-4 forward, spent her freshman campaign at UCLA, when the Bruins advanced to the NCAA Women’s College Cup. She appeared in two matches in 2007, tallying one assist. Sweetman redshirted the following year.

The Oxnard, Calif., native was highly touted coming out of Oaks Christian High School where she guided the Lions to two CIF championships and earned first-team All-CIF honors three times.  Sweetman was also tabbed a top 50 recruit by Soccer Buzz magazine and saw time as a U.S. National Team pool player in 2003-04. In addition, Sweetman led the Eagles Soccer Club to a pair of national championships and was a member of the ODP Cal South State Team from 2003-05.

It may take a few games for Sweetman to find her place on this 49er squad, but it will be a lot easier to do so on a team still trying to find its own identity.
