It seems a bit silly, but two paragraphs in Andy Katz’ latest blog dedicated to the Long Beach State 49ers is a big deal.

“Long Beach State is a Big West title contender. The 49ers, like most Big West teams, aren’t likely to earn an at-large NCAA tournament berth. But the 49ers are positioning themselves for a quality power rating and a possible better seed if they were to earn a bid.

Long Beach State plays West Virginia in the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif., facing Clemson or Texas A&M in Round 2. Long Beach State is also playing true road games at Texas, Kentucky and Duke. I’m not sure another conference title contender from another lower or mid-major conference is taking on that type of schedule.”
