Mark Reinis, a Long Beach local, and his rowing partner, Nick Trojann (who just graduated from Los Al), did something remarkable this week while representing Long Beach Junior Crew in the National Races–coming from behind, they took the junior men’s title, earning the right to represent the US in World competition.

The training was so intense, the pair gained enough weight and muscle to push them into the very competitive heavyweight division. “About 5 pounds over,” Mark said in a call a couple days ago. They ended up coming from back three seconds at the halfway split to take the dramatic title.  Their convincing performance over the multi-day tournament gave them the honor on day two, meaning they won’t have to race again today.
