The Lakewood-Long Beach community has been so supportive to 11-year old East Long Beach Pony baseball player Dallas Humphreys and his family in his fight against Leukemia. And yet people want to know what more they can do to help this young family.

The answer is Saturday’s Wine Tasting Fundraiser for Dallas at the Winery (3379 Cerritos Avenue) in Los Alamitos from 6-10 p.m.

The admission price is $25 and that includes wine tasting, appetizers and a raffle for a television, autographed baseballs and Lakers tickets.

Humphreys is in the second round of five chemotherapy sessions that last four to six weeks in duration in the attempts to fight off Acute Myeloid Leukemia, which has a 50-60% survival rate.

Dallas had a great first round of chemo that sent the Leukemia into remission, but still has a tough battle ahead, including recurring fevers and currently some pain in his legs.

The Humphreys family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from the LB community, its parents and quite a few athletes who have come to visit Dallas and have brought his gifts, food and well-wishes.

Recently Wilson coach Andy Hall, catcher Tanner Perkins, and his father, Dr. William Perkins, brought Dallas a jacket, hat and a poster signed by all the Bruins’ players.

For more information on tonight’s fundraiser, please contact Michele Antonaras (562) 221-6877 or Diane Munoz (562) 229-4563.

Hollye Humphrey’s, Dallas’ mother, will be on hand tomorrow night, so for all of you that can make an appearance, please do.

During this struggle and the sickness that chemo induces, please continue to send messages of hope to Dallas at www.caringbridge.org/visit/dallashumphreys. The well-wishes of friends and strangers alike have meant the world to Dallas and his family.
