Pitching is the key to any successful baseball team, and even though the Dirtbags weren’t exactly “successful” this season, junior pitchers Adam Wilk and Charlie Ruiz were each named to the baseball All-Big West teams as announced by the conference office.
Wilk, a junior left-handed pitcher from Cypress, Calif. earned second-team honors for starting pitchers. Long Beach State’s Friday night starter, Wilk posted a 7-4 record with a 2.78 ERA, leading the team in innings pitched and strikeouts on the season.
A fellow junior from San Leandro, Calif., Ruiz led Long Beach State with 11 saves on the season, earning honorable mention honors for closers. Ruiz struck out 42 batters in 25 innings pitched, appearing in 27 games overall.
