This week there is just another example of Long Beach State students being smart. Like, really smart.
Former Long Beach State women’s soccer player Amanda Perry (2004-07) was presented with the Outstanding Graduate award and was chosen to speak at the recent graduation for the kinesiology department.
The Fresno, Calif., native, who received her degree in kinesiology with an option in exercise science, maintained a 4.0 GPA, while also competing four years on the women’s soccer team at The Beach.
Perry was the first Academic All-American for the 49er soccer program, earning second-team honors in 2007. She was also a three-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII and All-Big West academic selection.
Perry, who joined the team as a walk-on in 2004, played in 67 career games on the back line. During her four-year career, LBSU accumulated a 45-26-7 mark and won a pair of Big West Conference regular season titles, while twice setting the school record for single-season victories and shutouts.
Perry was also involved in a number of on-campus activities, serving as a President’s Ambassador, a mentor to freshman student-athletes and an officer of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
