CIF just released the playoff brackets for the 2009 CIF Championship tournament, and our local teams learned their fates.  Stay tuned for previews and coaches’ thoughts as we get closer to the games!

Millikan, the Moore League’s top seed, will get one of two home games, as they’ll receive the winner of a Wild Card match between M.L. King and Mission Viejo.  All first round games, including Millikan’s will be Friday at 3:15, unless there’s a time change—we’ll keep you updated on time/location changes.  If Millikan wins their first-round game, they’ll next face the winner of Royal and Villa Park—second round games will be next Tuesday.

Poly, the second seed from the league, got the bad end of a coin flip and will have to start on the road, against Tesoro, a tough draw for a two-seed.  With a win they’ll face either Mater Dei or MD’s Wild-Card opponent in round two.

Lakewood, the league’s third seed, also starts on the road with a very tough draw against Edison, the champion of the Sunset League.  If they advance they’ll face West Ranch and El Dorado.

Wilson, as the league’s fourth seed, will have to start in the Wild Card bracket, which at least means they get to host their playoff opener, against Roosevelt on Tuesday (5pm at Blair).  If they win they’ll play South Coast champ Capo Valley in the first round on Friday.  Yikes.

St. Anthony will be competing in the CIF Division VI bracket, where they’ll visit Sage Hill in the first round.
